For Test Leads & Managers

Take control of the test approach.

You are expected to decide what needs testing, how deeply, with which people and budget - and explain those choices when scope, deadlines or evidence change. RiskRover keeps product risk, test strategy, effort, planning and reporting together so you can steer the work without rebuilding the reasoning every time someone asks why.

The Test Manager's reality

You are expected to bring structure where others see complexity.

The business wants confidence. Delivery wants speed. Testers need direction. The sponsor wants to know where the money is going. Requirements are incomplete, scope changes after planning and execution can challenge the assumptions you started with.

RiskRover gives you one place to structure the product, record risk choices, define testing depth and show how those choices lead to people, hours and budget. You make the judgement; the software keeps the consequences visible.

Core responsibilities

Set the direction. Show where the effort goes.

Handle the six questions that keep returning in real projects, with the inputs behind each answer still visible.

01

Clarify scope and assumptions

Answer what you are responsible for testing. Structure product areas, boundaries, dependencies and assumptions so new scope is a visible change, not another ambiguous discussion.

02

Facilitate Product Risk Analysis

Payments and Profile may both be called important, but failure does not have the same impact or likelihood. Capture that discussion and turn it into explicit risk classes.

03

Define the test strategy

Give Payments deeper integration, negative and recovery testing while a low-impact report gets focused checks. Set intensity, quality attributes, test levels and techniques from the risk picture.

04

Estimate effort and budget

Show how baseline hours, intensity, size and complexity build the estimate, then how roles, activities and hourly rates build the budget when a sponsor asks why you need those testing days.

05

Plan and steer execution

Use Planning Periods, Milestones, Activities, Resources, effort, Work Items, Test Attention and Strategy Coverage to see whether testing still follows the priorities you agreed.

06

Report and adapt

When scope, deadline or actual effort changes, show what it affects, which trade-off is needed and what risk the project would accept.

Change control

Keep the test approach useful when the project changes.

The release moves forward by two weeks. A new payment provider enters scope. The test environment arrives late. The sponsor reduces the budget. Each change can invalidate part of the approach even when the rest of the project stays the same.

RiskRover keeps scope, risk, strategy, effort and planning together so you can review the affected choices and explain the consequence. It does not decide what to drop, postpone or accept for you.

  • Release two weeks earlier: decide where to reduce depth, what to postpone and which remaining risk to explain.
  • New payment provider: review the affected product structure, integration risks, strategy and effort.
  • Environment delivered late: revisit what can still be executed in the remaining test window.
  • Smaller budget: reduce effort where it creates the least unacceptable risk, not evenly across every area.
  • Different execution evidence: return to the original likelihood, impact or estimation assumption and reassess it.

A review you can explain

Make a scope or budget change explainable.

In the fictional payment upgrade, the planned activities total 321.3 hours and €25,704.80 against a €25,000 budget. The plan makes the €704.80 gap visible before the team agrees what to change.

  • Review the deeper testing selected for the new payment components.
  • Check the smaller regression allowance for existing components, including their A, B and C risk classes.
  • Compare the estimate with the available budget and delivery constraints.
  • Discuss changes to scope, testing depth or funding, and record the accepted trade-off.

Master Test Plan

Generate the Master Test Plan from the work you already did.

You already captured project scope, stakeholders, test levels, quality attributes, environments, risks, strategy, effort, budget, roles, assumptions and constraints while doing the real planning work. RiskRover uses that information for the Master Test Plan preview, so you do not have to reconstruct the project story in Word.

  • Review the complete plan and its readiness before sharing it.
  • Export the current plan to Word from a RiskRover Pro workspace.
  • When a decision changes, update the source step and generate a new export.
  • Keep the planning inputs available for execution reviews and stakeholder questions.

Connected delivery tools

Coordinate testing in RiskRover. Keep delivery state in its source tool.

Bring selected delivery scope into the test plan and reuse the assessed product structure in supported test repositories. Imports and structure synchronisations are user-triggered; delivery assignments and statuses remain in their source tool.

Jira & Xray Cloud

Snapshot selected Jira Sprints as Planning Periods and issues as Work Items. Separately, create or maintain PRA-derived Xray Cloud folders beneath a chosen repository root.

Azure DevOps

Snapshot selected Iterations as Planning Periods and delivery scope as Work Items. Separately, create or maintain PRA-derived suites beneath a chosen Azure Test Plans root.

TestRail

Create or maintain PRA-derived sections beneath an existing TestRail root so the agreed structure does not have to be rebuilt manually.

Jira and Azure DevOps retain delivery assignment and status. Test cases and runs stay in Xray, Azure Test Plans or TestRail; RiskRover keeps the planning, evidence, readiness, blockers and Journal needed to steer testing.
